BOOM OP
The boom op is responsible for the operation of the boom microphone to capture clear dialogue while keeping equipment out of frame. They work closely with the sound mixer, adjusting mic placement and movement to ensure the best audio quality during filming.
SOUND UTILITY
A sound utility, or utility sound technician, is a member of a film or television production team who assists the production sound mixer and boom operator by setting up and maintaining audio equipment, managing sound issues on set, and ensuring high-quality audio capture. They perform various tasks, including wiring actors with microphones, running cables, and troubleshooting audio problems as they arise.
